There is no question whatsoever; Fall is my favorite season of the year. There is something about the crisp air, the cool breeze, and the luminescence of orange that fills my soul with pure bliss. Add on the fact that it is the start of peak Hygge season and I am all about that life.
What is Hygge?
Hygge (pronounced “hoo-ga”) is a Danish term that embodies comfort and coziness. This lifestyle focuses on gratitude, kinship, contentment, and relaxation. Rather than the hustle and bustle, hygge embraces enjoyment of the moment and taking time to appreciate the journey.
Why is Fall the Perfect Time To Embrace Hygge?
As the weather begins to cool, we naturally want to bring in warmer elements to our homes. There are countless opportunities to engage with our loved ones throughout the holidays and it is no secret that more treats are indulged in during the last quarter of the year than any other time. For someone who has never explored the idea of Hygge, Fall is the perfect time to start.
5 Practical Ways to Make Your Home Cozy For Fall
Add Chunky Blankets…Everywhere
I know that by simply pulling out one of my favorite blankets, the mood in my home instantly changes and I feel relaxed and ready to snuggle. It may not be time for heavy quilts but Autumn mornings are sure to be cooler than the blazing heat of summer. Break out the knitted throws and duvets!
A few of my favorite blankets:
Have Good Books Available
I’ll be honest that I am not an avid reader, I never have been so please forgive me. Despite this epic flaw, I do read more often when spending more time indoors; thank you Daylight Savings. Having my favorites, like Harry Potter and Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, out on my nightstand or coffee table encourages me to slow down and enjoy this wonderful pastime.

I don’t know what is better than my entire home smelling like a delicious pumpkin treat or what is cozier than the crackling of the fireplace. These two things scream Fall and instantly make me happy and relaxed. If you’re feeling fancy, throw some twinkling lights up and you have the perfect little base for your hygge home.
Pro Tip: Leave Christmas lights up all year long in spaces above kitchen cabinets or along your coffee bar.

Wear Cozy Socks or Slippers & Break Out The Cardigans
I am a South Floridian at heart so, the fact that I live where the air makes my face cold 76.5% of the year means I am no stranger to needing to wear layers. On top of the physical need, I simply love Fall fashion and how putting on a cardigan feels like a hug from an old friend.
